Warhol’s 1964 exhibition obliterated the distinction between art and reality, and brought attention to art’s paradoxical (i.e., philosophical) nature by presenting the audience with artworks that had indistinguishable non-art counterparts. The solid black bulk of the vehicle is set off by the soft greys of the houses, fading almost to white in the distance. MMU Special Collections was awarded funding by the Victoria & Albert Museum to run the project under the Design For Life scheme.

This multi-media group exhibition features seven international artists who explore a contemporary archaeological aesthetic, making art on urban walls in which the wall itself becomes an integral part of the work. For Lé, who grew up in the United States, the Vietnam War is an amalgamation of distant childhood memories, documentary materials, and Hollywood films. Members of the Arkansas Arts Educators Association were invited to jury the submissions. The most heavily attended event of the revival was a print and poster exhibition organized by Vanderbilt professor Mark Hosford and local artist Bryce McCloud. He received his MFA from Syracuse University. The question posed by Warhol’s exhibition was this: when faced with two externally indistinguishable objects, one art and the other not-art, how is one supposed to account for their difference in ontological status?
