The individual cannot be held accountable for the desire to drive, only for acting on the desire. The criminal who comes late to repentance understands that the punishment he already endured does not end the matter, because it does not address the inner failing of his malevolent moral intention. In the words of King David, ruler, prophet and psalmist, “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Psalm 119:165).
