Members of about 37 species are referred to as foxes, of which only 12 species actually belong to the Vulpes genus of "true foxes". In a 2001 paper to British Wildlife, Phil Baker, Tabetha Newman and Stephen Harris described the changes they observed when sarcoptic mange arrived in Bristol. Brief mentions that she used to have a poodle that got lost. This 7 page species account summarizes the best scientific information available as of 2004 on the biology, distribution, status, and behavior of this species.

Like Mexican gray wolves, that wild population is classified as an experimental nonessential population.
